At that time, the music critic Robert Christgau gave the album an "A-" and said that, although it is overpriced and under-recorded to some degree, its selling point is the title track, which features the longest Coltrane solo ever recorded.  This track entitled: One Down, One Up is 27:40 minutes in length.
